Five Things All Dachshund Owners Can Relate To

Life is NEVER dull when you own a dachshund.
From poor potty training, learning how to adjust to a collar and becoming the household vacuum cleaner - the list goes on! So we've put together five of our *favourite* traits that fellow doxie parents can relate to.
1. Once you buy one, you want more, more and more!
At first they are cute little cuddly bears and then before you know it, you've got three! Once you adopt one dachshund they quickly become your life.

You turn down social events to spend time with them, you spoil them and soon enough you find yourself adopting them a friend. You say it's because they need and want company while you're at work, but we're not falling for that, we know it's because you can't help yourself and we don't blame you, we're exactly the same.
2. Leaving the house is never the same again
Admittedly there's a number of reasons this applies (some better than others). But it's like people sniff you out, they hunt you from a mile away and then they surround you like a colony of seagulls around hot chips at the beach.

Your dachshund thrives in this environment, unless of course you catch them on the wrong day. They master the puppy dog eyes at a very young age and it's from there, that you lose all control.
3. We've got ghosts hiding in our garden
Fortunately our three dachshunds aren't constant barkers, but that certainly doesn't stop them from barking at absolutely nothing!

Often something catches their attention (that something is very much nothing) and they bark and bark and bark until that invisible object magically disappears. It's something of pure beauty.
4. Netflix and chill
It often amazes me how a dog that is happy to walk with me kilometres on end is also happy to lie beside me until I've run out of shows to binge.

Wherever you are, they want to be and that's what makes owning a dachshund so special. They might be small in stature, but they have huge personalities that are bursting with love, sass and pride.
5. Small legs, big hearts and loooong bodies
We've covered just a few of the many joys of being a dachshund owner above, but one thing we're yet to mention is the difficulty of finding clothes that fit! Dachshunds are like your friend with size 14 feet and shops only stock two of the one size because no one else wants them - it's impossible to find clothes that fit!

Short legs and long backs isn't the easiest combo to dress. Jackets often become a tripping hazard or a simply way too short... I mean don't get me wrong, some of us like the crop-top look but like mum always says, leaving your stomach out will give you a cold and it's "really not a good look".
